SIMPLE FOOD SWAPS TO IMPROVE YOUR THYROID FUNCTION

Making simple food swaps can help a great deal with reversing your hypothyroidism and Hashimotos symptoms. Food should be healing and fuel to the body NOT inflammatory and destructive. Your thyroid is greatly affected by how you eat. Food is the foundation of all good health but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Start with making some of these simple switches now!

Instead of drinking coffee which can be hard on your adrenals, drink dandelion root tea instead which is good for your liver! That helps with your thyroid because your liver is where you convert your thyroid hormones.

GET DANDELION ROOT TEA

Instead of drinking sodas or diet sodas (so bad for you), drink kombucha. It has the same fizz plus probiotics which is so good for your gut, which in turn,  is good for your thyroid. Healing your gut is key to reversing your symptoms. Try different brands and flavors until you find ones you love.

Table salt is not ideal because it’s so heavily refined that all the good stuff is eliminated before it ever reaches your mouth. After the salt is mined from the ground, it’s heated to about 1,200 degrees F, which destroys most of the impurities—but also any beneficial trace minerals (minus the sodium and chloride). Some are added back in—most notably iodine, which is thought to improve thyroid health and function.

Another problem with table salt is that since it’s ground so finely, it can clump together. So manufacturers add anti-caking agents to keep it flowing freely. Table salt can contain many other additives as well, including fluoride, monosodium glutamate (MSG), and bleaching compounds to make it white.

Basically, the final product is an industrial hodge-podge of sodium chloride and chemicals, with no other health-promoting ingredients or characteristics. It should be noted that much of salt’s bad rap is because cardiovascular studies have used this form of refined table salt.

Natural salts, however, have a very different effect on the body.

Unlike highly processed table salt, unrefined natural salts aren’t heated, manipulated, or altered in any way. This makes them rich sources of naturally occurring minerals and overall healthier products.

Sea salt is produced from the evaporation of seawater. Though some sea salts are more processed (and you should avoid them), unrefined sea salt contains as many as 60 different trace minerals that are abundant in the seas and oceans. Some of these include potassium, bromine, boron, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper, silicon, and calcium.

GET SEA SALT

We get a large bag and keep it in a large glass jar like this one HERE.

Do yourself a favor and grab THIS salt grinder to make things easier. Sea salt is wet and this makes it easier to use as it dries out.

Ghee is a type of clarified butter that contains fewer dairy proteins than regular butter. It is better tolerated by the body and you want to avoid traditional dairy which is damaging to the gut and can negatively impact thyroid function. This one also has sea salt!

Always drink lots of filtered water and never drink water that’s been in plastic containers. Invest in a good filtration system to remove things like fluoride and chlorine. Water kept in plastic containers have toxins from the plastic in them. All of these things are bad for your thyroid.

AND then grab this shower water filter HERE so you don’t get those toxins on your skin either and absorb it that way. Oh, and your skin and hair will be softer too!
